  6.  Australia, like the United States, enjoys the occasional
  7. outdoor sports event such as, for instance, the festival
  8. of Henley-on-Todd, which features rowing competition, among
  9. other things.  Unfortunately, the Todd River is dry during
  10. the event, a fact which does not daunt the residents of
  11. host town Alice Springs, who hold their rowing festival
  12. on the dry riverbed, anyway.  Even more unfortunately,
  13. Henley-on-Todd is held in the early Spring (that means
  14. August in the land down-under) which has caused occasional
  15. problems.  In at least one instance, the river was flowing
  16. with water on race day, and the Town had to hire a contractor
  17. to divert the river around the rowing course and create
  18. enough dry land for the sand-surfing events.  Other popular
  19. sporting events include the Alice Springs Bangtail Muster
  20. Rodeo, the Darwin Beer Can Regatta, the Australian World
  21. Gum Boot Throwing Championship, and the National Cow Chip
  22. Throwing Competition.  Grafton also hosts the Australian
  23. Country Music Awards each year, but to date has been unable
  24. to provide any musicians as outstanding as America's Dolly
  25. Parton.
